The 3rd Dyens’Memory guitar training program will take place during three days, in the framework of the Roland Dyens in the Skaï Festival, on October 7, 8 and 9, 2022 at the Théâtre Thénardier in Montreuil (93100), in France ! During these 3 intensive but no less enjoyable days, the students will work on Four Moods and Coda, a composition by Roland Dyens for guitar ensemble, and will enjoy private lessons and improvisation workshops. On Sunday, October 9, the students will play a concert as part of the Roland Dyens in the skaï Festival.

4 Moods and Coda – Productions d’Oz 2014

Four Mood and coda was commissioned for the New England Guitar Ensembles Festival organized by the Boston Classical Guitar Society

It was premiered in Boston on April 26, 2014 by thirty guitarists under the direction of composer Roland Dyens and it is dedicated to Daniel Acsadi and the Boston Classical Guitar Society

❝The first rehearsal with Roland Dyens on Friday night was incredibly special. He was extremely patient, friendly, generous, but also very precise technically and expressively. Not a single person in the ensemble complained that the rehearsal lasted hours and hours! And almost magically, the piece came together at the end of the night to their satisfaction. On the day of the festival, everyone was excited and he conducted the premiere with great humor and joy. Later, his solo recital was soulful, virtuosic, and transcended what we as performers traditionally feel about the audience.❞
Dr Daniel Acsadi, about the creation of 4 Moods and Coda.

To develop the tools necessary for the collective practice of guitarists by :

  • listening, intonation, transitions, relays, breathing and observation
  • work on the sound, the colors, the timbres, the dynamics
  •  accentuation and control of attacks
  • collective reflection around a common project

The training will be finalized by the performance of the trainees in front of a « real audience » at the Théâtre Thénardier, on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at 4:00 pm as part of the Roland Dyens in the skaï Festival.

An evaluation of the training will be done in the form of a questionnaire given to each internship as well and by a convivial discussion organized the day before the concert.

THE LITTLE STORY: What did Roland Dyens say about the ensemble music ?

« I was a bit dubious about guitar ensemble music because what I had heard of it did not suit me, did not convince me, did not seduce me, because it was a rough transcription. And then I got caught up in the game and I said to myself: if with a guitar ensemble you don’t stop and emphasize the colors, the timbres, the sound planes, then you’re really missing something. And there I got caught up in the game {…} of ensemble music because it’s not just about the sound, it’s about the human experience. I like that. I’m going to be up against guitarists and it’s going to be an adventure, a journey together, we’re going to build this together. »

Cours individuel avec Laurent Blanquart – 2cnd training program stage Dyens Memory, august 2021
  • Improvisation (optional) – with Orestis Kalampalikis

« I used to improvise, it’s a supersitition. It’s a barometer for ambiance, acoustic, I can’t avoid it, it’s the best way to open, to enter in a recital. » Roland Dyens

The main goal of this workshop is to introduce students to improvisation with relevant and simple forms, prioritizing the work on fundamentals : intention, move, expression, repetition and variation. Thanks to his formation with Roland Dyens, Orestis Kalampalikis will guide students through this exercise.
